A while ago I saw on Never too much glitter’s blog that she used a (pressed) eyeshadow for a franken. When Catrice discontinued a few of their eyeshadows, this one was one of them. Getting the eyeshadow back to a powder is quite time consuming if you’re using a small brush, maybe there are other techniques. I wouldn’t recommend using the eyeshadow brush you’re currently using, unless you’d like to wash it a few times to get everything out. I used an old clean-up brush.
Petrol keeps me Running is a medium toned teal with subtle green shimmer. Mixed with the frankenbase it’s a bit darker and the shimmer is more visible. I used two coats.
Vor einiger Zeit hab ich auf dem Blog von Never too much glitter gesehn, dass sie Lidschatten für ein paar ihrer Frankenlacke benutzt. Als Catrice einige der Lidschatten reduziert hat, war das einer davon. Den Lidschatten zurück in Puderform zu bringen war ein wenig zeitintesiv, wenn man einen kleinen Pinsel benutzt. Ich würde keinen Lidschattenpinsel dafür empfehlen, da er dann nur mehr noch schlecht sauber wird, ich habe einen alten Pinsel fürs “clean up” (Borstenpinsel von der Marke Vernissage, Nummer 8) benutzt.
Petrol keeps me Running ist ein mittlerer Petrolton mit subtilem grünen Shimmer. In der Frankenbase ist er ein wenig dünkler und der Shimmer ist in der Flasche gut erkennbar als auf einem Swatch/Aufgetragen am Auge. Für die Bilder hab ich zwei Schichten benutzt.

A glassflecked unnamed Franken
It’s been a while since I showed you one of my frankens. I made this one during a Frankenparty with three lovely ladies(if you read this, you know who you are :-) ) and had lots of fun!
The polish looks divine in the bottle- a teal packed with glassflecks that shifts from magenta to blue. The duochrome effect of the glassflecks was really hard to capture with my camera (I might try to wear it again using the underwater-trick to fotograph).
One of the downside is that I’ve probably put too much pigment in it and only the blue pigment (mixed blue and green together to get the color teal) seems to stay suspended in the base and the rest (green pigment+ glassflecks) sinks to the bottom.
I used two coats and didn’t had any issues.
Do you have any names for it? I haven’t come up with any great ones, maybe you can think of one :).
Es ist schon eine Weile her, seitdem ich euch einen meiner Frankenlacke gezeigt habe. Ich habe diese Lack während einer Frankenparty mit drei besonderen Freundinnen gemischt und hatte eine wirklich tolle Zeit! (falls ihr das lest, fühlt euch angesprochen :-) )
Der Nagellack schaut in der Flasche wunderhübsch aus- ein Petrolton voller Glassflecks, die, je nach Winkel, von Blau zu Magenta changieren. Der Effekt war wirklich schwierig mit meiner Kamera einzufangen.
Eins der Nachteile bei dem Lack ist, dass ich wahrscheinlich zu viel Pigment benutzt habe und nur das blaue Pigment in der Frankenbase sich auflöste, der Rest (grünes Pigment und die Glassflecks) sank zu Boden.
Der namenlose Frankenlack war schon mit zwei Schichten deckend.
Habt ihr Namensvorschläge? Mir sind bis jetzt keine gute Namen eingefallen, vielleicht ändert sich das ja :) .

| A "Frankenfail" it started crackling while it dried :( (as seen on my ringfinger). Used a matte topcoat and a gorgeous cobalt blue pigment, I believe this was 2 coats Ein missglückter Franken (selbsgemischter Lack). Er hat aufeinmal angefangen sich wie ein Crackle-Lack zu "teilen" (siehe Ringfinger). Hab dafür einen schönes Kobaltblaues Pigment in einem matten Überlack gemischt, sind glaub ich 2 Schichten. |

Illamasqua Baptiste and my take to frankendupe Boo!

I got this polish quite a while ago from Helen's Blog Sale and never felt like wearing it. Baptiste is a dark eggplant purple. In lower lights it's going to look like black, but this didn't bother me much. The application was a bit weird- you have to get used to the (rather) big square handle, which makes it a bit difficult to paint your nails but you'll get used to it. The consistency and opacity were great- it only needed two coats.
Boo! was one of the polishes I was lemming after I first saw swatches of it and when it became hard to find, I didn't bother looking for it anymore as it didn't pop up on ebay. So I decided to franken my own Boo!, which was quite simple.
You'll only need equal parts of purple, blue and magenta-colored glitter and a suspension base so the glitter won't bleed and you'll end up with a goopy nail polish with some silver glitter in it. The only thing you'll have to be careful about is how much glitter you put in it- if it's too much, you'll end up with an opaque glitter nail polish.
Anyway, I used one coat but it dried rather gritty, so you'll need an extra coat of topcoat.

Man braucht nur blauen, violetten und magentafarbenen Glitzer (von jedem Glitzer ca. gleich viel) und einer speziellen "Frankenbase*" für Glitzerlacke. Die Frankenbase verhindert, dass der Glitzer ausblutet und nur mehr noch eine einzige Pampe in der Flasche ist. Das einzige, was man beachten muss, ist, dass man nicht zu viel Glitzer reintun sollte, da es dann ein deckender Glitzerlack wird.
Ich hab auf den Bildern eine Schicht benutzt und die Oberfläche war recht rauh, also würde ich dabei eine extra Schicht Überlack empfehlen.

Frankening with Mac Reflects Transparent Teal
While I was in Canada I had the pleasure to go to a Esteè Lauder (warehouse?) sale and they had a lot of other brands which are owned by EL too - for example Origins, MAC and many others (I'm sure Anonymous Beautyholic would've gone nuts over there ;) ). Some of the prices were really good and I couldn't resist getting some things.
While I was at the Mac Pigment table I was looking if they had any intresting shades that I can franken with*. Transparent Teal was amongst some other ones in their old packaging (7g instead of the new ~3,5/4g). I know I cannot use up even one of them if I use them daily till the rest of my life but it was a great bargain (especially considering I got the old pots!).
Anyway, I mixed some Transparent Teal with a sheer black creme polish (instead of just layering). However I wouldn't recomment doing it a second time because the pigment does sink to the bottom and you'll have to shake it up before you use it the next time as there is no suspension base in there.
Transparent Teals base color is teal and is a duochrome which shifts blue and purple depending on the angle you are looking at it. I used one coat of my franken.

Sale von Esteè Lauder zu sein- es gab dort nicht nur EL sondern auch die Töchterfirmen wie Origins, MAC und viele andere (ich bin mir sicher, dass es das Paradies für Anonymous Beautyholic gewesen wäre ;) ). Die Preise dort waren recht gut und ich konnte mir das eine oder andere Schnäppchen nicht entgehen lassen.
Als ich beim Tisch mit den Mac Pigmenten war, hab ich nach Pigmenten ausschau gehalten, die ich auch fürs selbermischen von Lacken benutzen könnte*. Transparent Teal war einer, den ich u.a. mitgenommen hab und war auch wirklich froh, dass sie dort noch die alten Pigmentgrößen verkauft haben (7g statt den neuen ~3,5-4g). Ich weiß, dass ich das nie im Leben aufbrauchen würd, auch wenn ich mich täglich damit schminken würde, aber ich konnte nicht anders.
Ich hab TT mit einem recht durchsichtigen schwarzen Lack gemischt (statt einem Layering). Aber ich würde es nicht weiterempfehlen, da das Pigment sich am Boden angesetzt hat und man ihn vor dem benutzen immer vorher gut schütteln muss, weil er keine "suspension Base" drinnen hat.
Transparent Teals Grundfarbe ist ein schönes petrol, welches blau,- und lilafarben changiert. Er hat nur eine Schicht gebraucht, bis der Lack deckte.

Another holo Franken
I was really into wearing Frankens lately and this time it's a holo one. It's not as holo as my last ones ( this and this one) tough, still pretty. I tried to franken a dark teal holo but it ended up being not as holo as I want it to be.
Anyway, not sure what I used exactly but pretty sure one of the main polishes was Glam Nails Rainbow. Any blue and green would work for a teal, but you have to be carefull if it gets to opaque and the holographic effect is dulled.
I used two coats over the Aqua Base.
Ich hatte in letzter Zeit öfters die Lust, meine Eigenkreationen zu tragen und dieses mal ists ein Holographischer Lack. Es ist nicht so holographisch wie die letzten ( dieser oder dieser), aber trotzdem noch immer schön. Versucht hab ich, ein dunkles Petrol zu mischen, nur ists nicht so holographisch geworden, wie ichs gerne hätte.
Naja, ich bin mir nicht ganz genau sicher, was ich dafür benutzt habe, aber einer der "Hauptzutaten" war Glam Nails Rainbow. Und jeder Blau- und Grünton würde sich fürs eines Petrols eignen. Nur muss man drauf aufpassen, dass man nicht zu deckednde Lacke/zuviel davon erwischt, weil dann der holographische Effekt dran leidet.

Twisted Dorothy and a (unnamed) franken
If you read this, I'm already on a plane to Toronto. Some of you might've read that I'm going to be there for two months (I'm visiting relatives and am trying to improve my English). I'm not completly sure if I can blog there, but I've scheduled some posts so it won't be too quite here ;)
Wenn Ihr den Post jetzt lest, bin ich schon im Flieger in Toronto. Manche habens vielleicht schon auf Twitter mitbekommen, dass ich für zwei Monate dort bin (Ich besuch dort Verwandte und versuch mein Englisch zu verbessern). Ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher, ob ich dort bloggen kann, aber hab zur Sicherheit ein paar Posts schon geplant und werden dann in der Zwischenzeit veröffentlicht, damit es nicht zu still hier sein wird ;)
Wow, it's been a while since I posted a franken. Not sure why, probably because I rarely feel like wearing one.
Those two frankens are really simple. For the first one, Twisted Dorothy, I used about 3/4 of China Glaze Dorothy Who? as a base and added middle-toned blue glitter and dark blue glitter in it. Not sure how much I used each, maybe 1 table spoon of the middle-toned and 1/2 of the dark blue glitter.
Silly me added too much of each into the bottle so it was too goopy so I poured a bit out of it into another empty bottle. And another mistake of mine was to add the thinner after I poured everything in! Because of that, after a few days the glitter started to melt :(.
Anyway, because of my mistake (too much glitter), it ended up being a one coat wonder ( = polishes that are opaque in one coat) but the downside? It ate all the topcoat I put on! Even the clear ridge-filler. It was still bumpy after two thick coats of topcoat and a thick coat of the clear ridge filler.
The color of Twisted Dorothy is everything I wanted Dorothy Who(DW) to be- a blue glitter with a certain depth that the dark-blue glitter gave. DW looked like a frosty mess without having the frosty finish. I think it's the silver glitter that makes everything so bad.
Now, onto my other franken, which is still unnamed. That was also a really easy one- I used the same middle-toned blue glitter as in Twisted Dorothy and some green glitter. All that mixed with Wet'n'Wild Kaleidoscope (a sparse silver holo-glitter) because it's great for glitter-frankens and the glitter doesn't melt or sink to the bottom.
When I frakenend this one, I was a bit more carefull when I added the glitter so this franken was opaque with two coats. And I had the same issue that it was hungry for more topcoat.
Wow, ist schon ziemlich lange her, als ich das letzte Mal einen selbstgemixten Nagellack (Franken) gezeigt habe. Weiß nicht genau, wieso, aber ich hab meist nicht so eine große Lust, Frankens zu tragen.
Das "Rezept" für beide Frankens ist einfach- für den ersten, Twisted Dorothy, ist die Basis ca. eine 3/4 volle Flasche von China Glaze Dorothy Who?. Dannach hab ich einen mittelblauen und dunkelblauen Glitzer reingetan- bin mir nicht ganz sicher, wieviel genau, aber ich schätz mal dass es ca. ein Esslöffel (EL) vom mittelblau und ein halber EL vom dunkelblauen.
Ich Dussel hab von beiden viel zu viel reingetan, was dann in einem nicht-lackierbaren sehr dickflüssigen Matsch endete. Also hab ich ein bisschen rausgeschüttet und einen weiteren Fehler begangen: Nagellackverdünner reingeschüttet, was dann verursachte, dass der Glitzer nach ein paar Tagen ein wenig ausblutete :(
Naja, wegen meinem "Fehler" (zu viel Glitzer), war der Lack dann mit nur einer Schicht deckend. Der Nachteil? Er war die Oberfläche auch nach 2 dicken Schichten Überlack und einer Schicht klaren Rillenfüller noch immer rau!
Die Farbe, die Twisted Dorothy hat, war genau die, die eigentlich Dorothy Who(DW) hätte haben sollen. Ein Blau mit einer gewissen Tiefe, was der dunkle Glitzer hier bewirkt. Der eigentliche DW ist eher ein blauer Jelly-Lack mit silbernen Glitzer drinnen, der in meinen Augen wie ein (eckliges) Frost-finish hat.
Nun, der zweite Franken ist auch wirklich einfach, ich hab den selben mittelblauen Glitzer wie beim vorigen Franken benutzt. Hinzu kam auch noch grüner Glitzer. Das alles hab ich in den Lack Kaleidoscope von Wet'n'Wild reingetan (ein simpler silberner Holo-Glitzer Lack, recht wenig Glitter im Lack, eher fürs layern geeignet). Kaleidoscope ist übrigens ein guter Lack fürs franken mit Lacken, weil der die meisten Glitzer nicht ausblutet und der Glitzer auch nicht am Boden sinkt.
Er ist noch "ungetauft" (sprich, hat keinen Namen) und war mit zwei Schichten deckend, hatte aber das gleiche Überlack-Dillema wie beim Twisted Dorothy Franken.

Those two frankens are really simple. For the first one, Twisted Dorothy, I used about 3/4 of China Glaze Dorothy Who? as a base and added middle-toned blue glitter and dark blue glitter in it. Not sure how much I used each, maybe 1 table spoon of the middle-toned and 1/2 of the dark blue glitter.
Silly me added too much of each into the bottle so it was too goopy so I poured a bit out of it into another empty bottle. And another mistake of mine was to add the thinner after I poured everything in! Because of that, after a few days the glitter started to melt :(.
Anyway, because of my mistake (too much glitter), it ended up being a one coat wonder ( = polishes that are opaque in one coat) but the downside? It ate all the topcoat I put on! Even the clear ridge-filler. It was still bumpy after two thick coats of topcoat and a thick coat of the clear ridge filler.
The color of Twisted Dorothy is everything I wanted Dorothy Who(DW) to be- a blue glitter with a certain depth that the dark-blue glitter gave. DW looked like a frosty mess without having the frosty finish. I think it's the silver glitter that makes everything so bad.
Now, onto my other franken, which is still unnamed. That was also a really easy one- I used the same middle-toned blue glitter as in Twisted Dorothy and some green glitter. All that mixed with Wet'n'Wild Kaleidoscope (a sparse silver holo-glitter) because it's great for glitter-frankens and the glitter doesn't melt or sink to the bottom.
When I frakenend this one, I was a bit more carefull when I added the glitter so this franken was opaque with two coats. And I had the same issue that it was hungry for more topcoat.
Wow, ist schon ziemlich lange her, als ich das letzte Mal einen selbstgemixten Nagellack (Franken) gezeigt habe. Weiß nicht genau, wieso, aber ich hab meist nicht so eine große Lust, Frankens zu tragen.
Das "Rezept" für beide Frankens ist einfach- für den ersten, Twisted Dorothy, ist die Basis ca. eine 3/4 volle Flasche von China Glaze Dorothy Who?. Dannach hab ich einen mittelblauen und dunkelblauen Glitzer reingetan- bin mir nicht ganz sicher, wieviel genau, aber ich schätz mal dass es ca. ein Esslöffel (EL) vom mittelblau und ein halber EL vom dunkelblauen.
Ich Dussel hab von beiden viel zu viel reingetan, was dann in einem nicht-lackierbaren sehr dickflüssigen Matsch endete. Also hab ich ein bisschen rausgeschüttet und einen weiteren Fehler begangen: Nagellackverdünner reingeschüttet, was dann verursachte, dass der Glitzer nach ein paar Tagen ein wenig ausblutete :(
Naja, wegen meinem "Fehler" (zu viel Glitzer), war der Lack dann mit nur einer Schicht deckend. Der Nachteil? Er war die Oberfläche auch nach 2 dicken Schichten Überlack und einer Schicht klaren Rillenfüller noch immer rau!
Die Farbe, die Twisted Dorothy hat, war genau die, die eigentlich Dorothy Who(DW) hätte haben sollen. Ein Blau mit einer gewissen Tiefe, was der dunkle Glitzer hier bewirkt. Der eigentliche DW ist eher ein blauer Jelly-Lack mit silbernen Glitzer drinnen, der in meinen Augen wie ein (eckliges) Frost-finish hat.
Nun, der zweite Franken ist auch wirklich einfach, ich hab den selben mittelblauen Glitzer wie beim vorigen Franken benutzt. Hinzu kam auch noch grüner Glitzer. Das alles hab ich in den Lack Kaleidoscope von Wet'n'Wild reingetan (ein simpler silberner Holo-Glitzer Lack, recht wenig Glitter im Lack, eher fürs layern geeignet). Kaleidoscope ist übrigens ein guter Lack fürs franken mit Lacken, weil der die meisten Glitzer nicht ausblutet und der Glitzer auch nicht am Boden sinkt.
Er ist noch "ungetauft" (sprich, hat keinen Namen) und war mit zwei Schichten deckend, hatte aber das gleiche Überlack-Dillema wie beim Twisted Dorothy Franken.

A glamorous Franken take two and A-England Tristam
This is another attempt to franken a dupe of the awesome OPI DS Glamour. That attempt wasn't as successful but its still really holo. Not 100% sure what I used but I think I used Nfu.Oh 61 (the good version! note to self, I should stop frankening with it because there are now two versions and the first one is better in my opinion) and Wet'n'Wild Nocturnal.
Anyway, I thought my franken was too plain on its own, so I added a-england Tristam to my manicure. All of them are named after the Excalibur-saga. The holo-effect of Tristam is not as pronounced as others, but still pretty because I really like the base color in it.
The application of both polishes was good as I used the Aqua Base as my base coat and both were opaque in two coats.
Das ist nun mein zweiter Versuch, OPI DS Glamour nachzufranken. Ist mir nicht wirklich gelungen, aber es ist immer noch ein sehr "starker" holographischer Effekt zu sehen, selbst im Schatten. Ich bin mir nicht 100%ig sicher, was ich genau benutzt hab, aber es ist ein Teil Nfu.Oh 61 (die gute Version, es gibt mittlerweile eine nicht so "holo-ige" Version, ich sollte echt aufhören, damit zu franken) und Wet'n'Wild Nocturnal.

How about a DIY scented topcoat?
Do you love scented polishes as much as I do? Then this post is surely something for you. I read on makeupalley a while ago how to do your own scented polish. (click here if you'd like to read more about it).
The idea was originally from theasiangirl.
I did it and love how it turned out. The recipe is simple: take a perfume/ your favourite perfume (eau de toilette or eau de perfume*), spray it into an empty polish bottle, add some polish (I like to use a topcoat), add some balls and shake it well. I used approx. 15-20 pumps in this little 8ml bottle, depending how strong you want the it to be.The perfume I used in this picture is the Vanilla Bourbon perfume from Yves Rocher, I love it and have this bottle almost 6,7 years and still haven't used it up because I seldomly use perfume .
You can also use cheap disposable plastic pipettes like these click if you can unscrew the perfume bottle (and it won't be a big mess).
Don't worry if the result may look a bit goopy at first- it'll go away if you shake it well. And you can see that the perfume itself is a bit colored which also causes the polish to be colored too- unless you're bothered by that, you may want to stick to colorless perfumes. Another thing is that I don't know how well it will work with non-B3F polishes (i.e. Seche Vite).
*not sure how well it would work with an eau de perfume because I don't have an eau de perfume to test. Oil-based perfumes are not ideal because they would ruin your polish.
Edit: I am by no means a scientist and cannot guarantee that the results you imagined would be exactly the same. It may backfire or be just as good, and the results may vary from the topcoat/clear nail polish you use. Also I have not used this with an non B3F topcoat like Seche Vite, so cannot say how these two will react.

A glamorous Franken
Hey there :)
The first minute I saw pictures of OPI's DS Glamour, I knew, it had to be mine. Time passed, a lot of other polishes happened and I still am not *that* ready to buy it at the prices they offer it at the bay of evil. So I tried to franken one for myself. I used a drop of Wet'n'Wild Noctural- nah, too much green and then I used Essence's Deep Blue Sea (sadly, discontinued) and Glam Nails Rainbow, which I already raved about here.
And those two polishes mixed together was this:
(I used two coats, no topcoat- it was even more holo than it shows in the pictures :D )

A Franken and crackles
Hey there :)
Today's just a quick post. I recently saw some swatches of Models Own Disco Mix and thought that it was quite easy to franken my own so I did. I used an unnamed blue glitter from Claire's (the ones they sell here are all unnamed :( ) and the pink glitter from my swap with the sweet Jackie from Candy Coated Tips.
I couldn't let it alone so I layered a thick coat of Isadora White Art over it.
I'd recommend you to click on the pic to enlarge it to see the glitter better :)

Holo week - Day 3, Frankenpolish Fury
Hey there :)
A new day, a new holo :) So today's NOTD is my Frankenpolish called Fury. It's a blurple holo and my camera has problems picking up the right color (like allmost every purple). Imagine it less blue.
I used two coats, no topcoat and please excuse the tipwear.

Another matching weather polish, a unnamed franken with a matching purse
Hey there :)
The weather here still hasn't changed much- raining, a teeny tiny bit of sun, then rain again *sigh* and it's June first....
Here it is- my unnamed franken (if you have any name suggestions, leave them in the comments below :) ) and the matching purse I posted about here.The recipe for this franken was really simple- I used Wet'n'Wild Black creme, a few drops of clear polish and B.pretty in Silver Stars (2 of my favourite polishes to franken with). I think any other silver/holographic glitter would be perfect (I think the Covergirl in City Lights or China Glaze's Wireless Holographic Topcoat/Fiary Dust or Wet'n'Wild's Kaleidoscope for those who like it chunkier ;) ).

I was drooling over Andreas post from Black Nail polish and Lipgloss and thought to share these bottle pics with you :)
(I've added the AA and Orly polish to let you know how tall they approx. are)

Frankenpolish: Jetset
Hey there :)
Today's another old NOTD. It's an try to make a dupe of (my lemming) Opi's My Private Jet. I got the "recipe" from Amarena (visit her great blog here ). As soon as I saw that she used some polishes I have access to I ran (well not literally but I got there real quick ^^) to my local drug store and found the polish- S-he 427. I didn't use Essence's Fatal polish because I had Wet'n'Wild's Black Creme. I also didn't use that much W'n'W Black cream because it is more opaque than the Essence one.
The franken only needed 2 coats and I when I took the pictures it was really cloudy and I couldn't find an lightbulb that hasn't got that yellow-ish light. So sorry about that- that was the only way to show it's holo-madness :P

Edit: It looks similar to Color Club's Revvvolution or Diamond Cosmetics Chainmail Charm- now I've got the second one (thanks again Velvet :) ), I think I'm going to do a comparison of the two polishes sometime soon (there are a ton of other polishes I'm planing on swatching ;) ).
