Field Trip to Bratislava- Blogger Version

Last Friday a few fellow Viennese Bloggers and I packed our bags and went on a day-trip to Bratislava. It's about an hour and a half ride (with either the train, bus or car) and we took the train (they have a special offer right now where you can get an return ticket for only 14€ and it includes the public transportation there!).

We arrived at the main station (Bratislava Hlavná Stanica) and took the bus to one of their shopping malls, Aupark. At Lunchtime we searched for an restaurant but we didn't want to eat at the mall so we went to search for one at the historic center. After the Lunch we walked through the city center and enjoyed a cup of coffee/tea before we headed back to the main station for our ride home.

Letzten Freitag waren ein paar Wiener Bloggerinnen und ich auf einem kleinen Tages-Ausflug nach Bratislava. Es ist ca. eine 1 1/2-stündige Fahrt von (mit dem Bus, Bahn oder Auto) Wien entfernt. Wir nahmen den Zug, da sie gerade eine günstiges Ticket für 14€ (Hin- und Rückfahrt) inklusive den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln dort.

In Bratislava angekommen, nahmen wir dann den Bus zum Einkaufszentrum Aupark. Haben dort ein wenig geshoppt und zur Mittagszeit waren wir dann auf dem Weg in die Altstadt, um dort ein Restaurant zu suchen. Nach dem Mittagessen haben wir noch die Altstadt und den neueren Teil von Bratislava erkundet und haben noch einen Kaffee/Tee genossen, bevor wir wieder zurück zum Bahnhof fuhren.

Aaaaaaand it's done!

Well, not everything but maybe you've noticed that I changed my blog design a bit. I've been wanting to do this for quite a while now but never got around or was to lazy to do it. Now it's almost done (except the comments, I hope I can use the blogger comment system and not disqus) and if you have any problems with it, please email me (or send me an tweet or drop me a line on facebook) .

So, uhm- I hope you enjoy the new design and hopefully I'll post something nail related as soon as possible :)

Wie ihr sehen könnts habe ich nun das Design hier verändert. Es musste einfach frischer Wind hier rein und war schon längst überfällig. Nun ist es fast fertig (bis auf die Kommentare, da möchte ich das bloggereigene Kommentarsystem wieder benutzen und disqus deinstallieren) und falls ihr noch Fragen/Wünsche/Anregungen habts, könnts ihr mir gerne eine E-mail schreiben (oder alternativ ein Tweet oder auf meine Facebookwand posten)

Ich hoffe euch gefällt mein neues Design und werde den nächsten Post wieder etwas über Nagellacke posten :)

They are finally here- my business cards

A while ago I the great business cards (moo mini cards) Mirela from coral and mauve presented on her blog and really like them. Fast forward a few months later I hear that they were doing a -30% off everything sale and I couldn't resist getting some for myself. Some drafts later I finally made a picture which would make a great (front?) site of the mini cards [which I am also using as my header- that's how much I love the picture]. After a while they were shipped and (finally) were in my mailbox.
What can I say? I love them- how they turned out and the matte finish, they don't look "cheap" (quality-wise) and don't have to write my blog URL onto a piece of paper which will be easily forgotten/thrown away. They are a bit smaller than the average sized business cards (hence the name mini cards) but they surely are something different.


Vor einiger Zeit hab ich bei Mirela von coral and mauve gesehn, dass sie sich bei moo mini cards/Visitenkarten für den Blog bestellt hat und davon begeistert war. Ein paar Monate später hab ich dann auf facebook gelesen, dass sie -30% auf alles anbieten und ich konnte nicht wiederstehn, ein paar Visitenkarten für mich zu designen und bestellen. Ein paar (schlechte) Entwürfe später hatte ich dann nun endlich ein Bild, was ich für die Vorderseite der mini cards benutzen kan [was ich so sehr mochte und es jetzt als meinen Header benutz]. Nach einer Weile wurden sie auch verschickt und dann (endlich) im Postkastl.
Was kann ich dazu noch sagen? Ich liebe sie- sie sind wirklich toll geworden, haben eine matte Oberfläche und schauen auch nicht "billig" aus (von der Qualität). Sie sind auch einen Tick kleiner als "normale" Visitenkarten (deshalb der Name auch Mini Cards).

Here in Austria we have a tradition of an advent calendar. Each day (beginning with Dec. 1st) you open a "door" [metaphorically speaking] and depending on what's behind it, there are either sweets or if it's a  more personal gift from someone else (parents, friends) other things that you like. Most of the commercial advent kalenders are filled with sweets- from chocolate to a suprise egg each day or even a tea bag till the 24th.
This year, we have a little blogger advent calendar- each day another blogger opens a door and behind that there is a giveaway. The door is only "open" for 24 hours (therefore you can only enter during that time). There'll be more information on each "door", this is just the introduction post :).

Nail Polish blogger meet-up

This isn't going to be too intresting for those who don't live in Vienna, so I'll just post it in German.

Am Samstag werden die Caro von Good Lack, Nail und ich ein kleines Nagellackblogger treffen im Cafè Nuss auf der Nußdorferstraße 9 um 14:30 . Wir haben auch vor, ungeliebte Lacke, die wir nicht mehr haben wollen (danke "liebe" österreichische Post -.-) untereinander zu tauschen. Anschließen können wir dann den Abend noch beim Christkindlmarkt (Altes AKH oder Spittelberg*) ausklingen lassen und die liebe Barbara von Biba's Beauty Corner besuchen, weil sie dort arbeitet.

First beauty flea-market in Vienna

Yesterday was the first beauty flea-market in Vienna. I know, I wrote the first details only in german well, because it might not be that good/relevant for you guys (some might be in the same country but can't come or some are living in a different continent). Anyway, here is my impression of it.

First of all, I want to thank Mirela, Jen and Claudia for the organization of the event- it wouldn't have happend if it weren't for you!
The flea market was in a little
I was one of the 15 exhibitors and I have to say, there were quite a lot of people at the beginning (11am)- they kept coming but at afternoon the rush of people was almost over, but it was never empty till the end (6pm). The atmosphere was really great and I had a blast and am really happy that I got to know some fellow bloggers.
Anyway, here are some pictures of the booths and the catering by Claudia and Sophie.

Gestern fand der erste Wiener Beautyflohmarkt im 18. Bezirk in der Martin Luther Kirche statt. 


Zuallererst möchte ich mich herzlich bei Mirela, Jen und  für die Claudia Organisation des Events bedanken!
Wie ihr wisst, war ich eine der 15 Ausstellerinen und ich muss zugeben, dass es am Anfang wirklich einen Ansturm gab, der bis zum Nachmittag da war- es war auch nie der Raum leer. Die Atmosphäre war wirklich toll und ich hatte eine tolle Zeit, ein Gesicht dem Blog zuordnen zu können :). 
(Ich habs leider nicht geschafft, eigene Fotos zu machen, aber die folgenden Bilder darf ich mit der Erlaubnis von der Mirela benutzen )

Beauty flea-market

There's gonna be a beauty-flea market in Vienna on the 13th of November. It started out as a little idea over at twitter and then finally became more :)
For more informations, there's a facebook page and they created an event over there too if you'd like to RSVP.


Es wird am 13.November in Wien einen Beauty-Flohmarkt geben. Er hat eigentlich nur als eine spontane Idee auf Twitter begonnen und ich bin wirklich froh, dass es mehr draus geworden ist!
Ich werd unter den Aufstellerinnen sein und freu mich schon auf euer kommen :)

La Donna Fair- my impressions (picture heavy!)

I had the opportunity to go to the "La Donna" fair here in the "Wiener Stadthalle". The fair is for women, where they exhibit cosmetics, clothing, accessories and a few other this. The fair is still open till Sunday (October 2nd).
I met up with a few other bloggers (coral and mauve, Kirschblüte's Blog, lovely shared secrets and Eibhlin from wien mitte)  and first we went to a little lecture about baking without sugar and they brought some examples and samples. The lecture was ok, nothing mind-blowing in my opinion but what I liked best is, that he included some recipes where you can use stevia and eristar to bake cakes. The recipes are in German, but I think there are english recipes floating around on the internet ;).

Ich hatte die Gelegenheit, die "La Donna" Messe in der Wiener Stadthalle zu besuchen. Die Messe ist nur für Frauen, wo  Kosmetik, Kleidung, Accessoires und ein paar andere Sachen ausgestellt wird. Sie ist ürbigens noch bis morgen, Sonntag (2.Oktober) geöffnet, falls wer reinschauen will.
Ich hab mich mit ein paar anderen Bloggerinnen (coral and mauve, Kirschblüte's Blog, lovely shared secrets und Eibhlin von wien mitte) getroffen und wir gingen zuerst zum Vortrag "Backen ohne Zucker mit Beispielen und Kostproben". Der Vortrag war ganz in Ordnung, meiner Meinung nach nichts weltbewegendes. Was ich aber gut fand, war, dass der Vortagende in seiner Power-Point Präsentation Rezepte miteingebaut hat, wo man Stevia und Eristar fürs backen von Kuchen bentuzen kann.

After the lecture we went to the exhibition hall. The aisles were pretty small and some booths were packed full with things that the orientation there was rather chaotic (or at least that was my impression of it). You had to make your way through the people. Another thing we came to conclusion is, that we weren't really the target group for this fair- most of the women were in their mid-30ies, or even older, where all of us are in our 20ies.

Nach dem Vortrag gingen wir zur Ausstellungshalle. Die Gänge waren ziemlich schmal und manche Stände waren vollgepackt mit Dingen, was mir den Eindruck vom Chaos vermittelt. Man musste sich teilweise durch die Menschen durchschlängeln und wir haben auch bemerkt, dass wir nicht wirklich die Zielgruppe sind. Die meisten Frauen waren in den 30ern oder älter, wohingegen wir in unseren 20ern sind.

There was a Konad-booth too but the tings were overpriced (7€, approx. 9US$ for a stamping plate).

Overall the fair wasn't really our thing- the things they exhibited were not really for us (they even had a few booths where they sell kitchen accesoires from the teleshopping channel) and I probably would not have been a happy camper if I had to pay the full ticket price.

Alles in allem fand ich die Messe recht langweilig. Zu einem Teil, weil es nicht unsere Zielgruppe war, zum anderen waren es auch teilweise die Stände dort, die recht bizarr sind (es gab einige Stände, wo sie Sachen aus den Dauerwerbesendungen verkauft haben). Ich wäre sicherlich nicht sehr erfreut gewesen, wenn ich auch noch den Eintritt bezahlt hätte.

I'm back from my long vacation

So I'm back from my long trip to Toronto (and the other cities I went to). I had a great time there and I'll leave you with a few (non nail related) pictures I took there:

And the last picture is my favourite- I saw this one when I visited a Wax Museum at Niagra Falls and had to take a picture of it. They used a silver holographic (foil?) for the plattform where the Michael Jackson wax figure was.

Rant: I just need to get this off my chest

If you're not a fan of rant-posts, please skip this post. (And it's not a April fools day joke either)

Well, how do I start this post... It really bugs me that a certain company hasn't done their proper research in terms of (make up) finishes. Because holographic ≠ duochrome. I know press-release pictures are not the best in the color-accuracy category but you really have smoked something bad when you mistake a holographic with a duochrome (for those of you who don't know the difference, here's a über-great post about a lot of finishes.)

It's like trying to sell a well-known branded product but it's the crappy counterfeit (or even f....... waste that no one wants). 

That particular company did that in a LE polish (and I doubted its "holo" ness when I first saw the press release) and now another LE "full with holographic" poducts.

Someone confronted the company about that issue at their beauty bulletin board and the result were lame excuses and a statement that can be roughly translated to "we're sorry that you're dissapointed about this but we try out best to capture the true color(s) in our pictures".

The new Catrice display, an Essence LE and a blast from the past

I found the new Catrice display today and was really excited to see the new things they've released. They've re-arranged their whole display and to me it looks more well arranged than it was.

I heard that there were different versions of their polish called Run Forest Run!, so I found these two

Yeah, the two different versions of RFR!- on the left, the old version, the new one on the right. I get it that some batches might have very slight differences, but turning a dark green into a light green (which now looks a lot like Sold Out Forever now)
And while I was at the store who also has the bigger Essence display, I saw their new LE

I only got the blue/blurple polish and the lighter color changing lipgloss, the rest was kinda meh to me.
They also had part of the new nail-art-stickers

And lastly, here's a little blast from the past. While I was cleaning out my stash  for my blog sale (btw. there's still plenty left ;)) I found this:

These are the "silk" wraps before they've actually released the ones made out of fabric. The nail repair pads are made out of plastic and have a lot in common with clear labelling stickers. I'm not sure when exactly I got them, it was around 2006, but I'm not completly sure.

I can still remember trying 3 or 4 of these and thinking that these were a complete waste of money because they are wrinkle-city and can be peeled off in a few hours after applying them.

Omg, I've been featured

If you follow me on Twitter, you might've seen that I've been featured in an (local drugstore) magazine called BC Mag. I finally got my copy and can show it to you. The feature is about the seven Beauty-Blogs they enjoy reading. Well, their research might not be the best (i.e. they wrote that MacKarrie is from Germany but is a Viennese too- huh?), I'm still flattered that they mentioned my little blog. The other bloggers, mostly German/Austrian, who were also featured are: beauty addict, Chamy's Diary, Give the Bitch her Chocolate, Les Belles Affaires, Karla Sugar, MacKarrie and me.

Laut der bipa facebook-seite gibts bis zum 12.März -15% Rabatt auf alle Mascara, Lippenstifte und Nagellacke.
